We invite you to meet some of the key people who drive our company:

John Petrachek – President and General Manager

John Petrachek is President & General Manager of Atlas-Apex Roofing Inc. He started his career in the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional roofing industry in 1993 as a representative with a large roofing product/design manufacturer. His vision has always been to stay ahead of the competition by delivering outstanding customer service and communications.

Mr. Petrachek is an Ontario University graduate with his Honours Business Administration degree, and is a proud member of the Ontario Industrial Roofing Contractors Association (O.I.R.C.A.), the Roof Consultants Institute (RCI), Canadian Roofing Contractors Association (CRCA), and the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA). John also sat on the board of the OIRCA, where he is a past President, Safety Committee member and most recently, a part of the Membership Committee.

Mr. Petrachek has dedicated a great deal of his time and resources to the roofing industry over the past 20 years, and has lectured on several key topics at various venues during that time. He also continues to give back to the community in the form of various donations and sponsorships, both personally and corporately, as well as creating the VIP Foundation, which helps individuals and families in need on a local level.

As a loving husband and a father of 4 children, his entrepreneurial spirit is hopefully followed by his children for years to come.

Steve Murray – Senior Vice President of Operations, General Superintendent

Steve Murray, Senior Vice President of Operations and General Superintendent, has been with Atlas Apex Roofing Inc. for over 20 years. Steve oversees the day-to-day activities of the project managers, purchasing agents, health and safety officers, and over 150 roofing, sheet metal and support staff employees.

Steve graduated with a business administration degree at Humber College. His 30 years in the roofing industry started as a summer student during his high school and University/College years. During this time he was introduced to roofing and sheet metal installations and the basics of estimating for new construction and re-roofing projects. After he graduated, his summer job turned into a full time job as an estimator and supervisor.

By regularly attending seminars and courses, Steve stays current with the changes within the industry. He has extensive knowledge and training in all roofing and sheet metal systems, as well as more recent trends such as light weight insulating concrete, vegetative and cool roof assemblies, and solar panel installations.

He has successfully completed all three levels of training necessary to be a member of a “Joint Health and Safety Committee”, as recognized by the Ministry of Labour (MOL), and the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) in the construction sector. In addition, he is presently a member of the “Risk Assessment Committee” with the Ontario Industrial Roofing Contractors Association (OIRCA).

Sean Wagner – Branch Manager

Sean has worked with the Atlas Apex group since acquisition of their West Coast arm, Coast Hudson Ltd., in 2014. Sean is employed in the position of Branch Manager - BC overseeing and managing day to day operations of the division. His tenure in the roofing industry totals 28 years, 20 of those with Coast Hudson and the Atlas Apex group of companies.

Preceding his employment in the roofing industry Sean worked in financial services for one of Canadas Big 5 banks. His career in the field commenced out of high school and through extra-curricular schooling, combined with high desire and effort, Sean moved from an entry level service position to Management Training and a subsequent Management level posting at a more rapid pace than any employee of his company’s staff had ever accomplished when not in possession of a post-secondary degree.

Following 4 successful years with the bank Sean decided on a change in vocation and found himself in the roofing trade as a part time summer job while pondering what he would like to undertake moving forward in his business life. He quickly realized that, not only did he possess the skills and adaptability to be successful in the construction industry, his experience and knowledge derived from his time in the banking trade would serve to provide a foundation for swift ascension in the roofing field. Over a period of one year Sean rose from labourer to foreman supervising a crew of 10 - 12 men. Another year after that he was promoted to an office level position where a career in roofing management was launched.

Since that time Sean has been involved in the roles of Junior Estimator, Senior Estimator, Purchaser, Safety Administrator, Safety Coordinator, Service Administrator, Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, Senior Project Manager and finally his current position as Branch Manager.

During his time in the roofing field Sean has partaken in a variety of industry-related courses and training including, construction estimating, construction management, blueprint reading, safety auditing, various industry related application, product and safety courses and onwards.

Sean is an avid participant in many health and fitness activities and enjoys music, reading and the outdoors.

Richard McLeod – Business Development

Richard joined Atlas-Apex Roofing in 2013, and brings with him a strong sales and marketing background from his roles within the Industrial Commercial and Institutional (ICI) market over the past 15 years. Richard got his start in the roofing industry in 2008 as a Territory Representative for a high-performance roofing systems manufacturer. After gaining valuable experience from the manufacturing and distribution perspective, he decided he could better serve his clients’ wide range of needs from the contractor’s side. Richard is recognized by his clients as utilizing a consultative approach, and providing creative solutions to their roofing problems, based on a strong foundation of industry best-practices.

Prior to roofing, Richard was an Account Manager with a leading material handling manufacturer/ distributor for several years.

Richard is responsible for direct client sales and account development, as well as overseeing other critical marketing functions such as advertising, direct marketing, and public relations.

Maureen Kane – Director, HR and H&S

Maureen Kane is the Director of Human Resources and Health & Safety for Atlas-Apex Roofing Inc. She is responsible for giving direction to senior management, supervisors and workers regarding health and safety issues. She continually updates the Health and Safety Management System by monitoring, reviewing, and updating internal policies to meet or exceed ever- changing industry standards. Prior to coming to Atlas-Apex Roofing Inc., Maureen spent twenty years in a management capacity within the roofing industry.

Maureen’s career in Health and Safety started in 2004, and she has since completed her Occupational Health and Safety Certificate through Conestoga College, and sits as Chair of the Steering Committee for the same WSIB Safety Group she joined seven years earlier. Maureen is a highly motivated, creative and versatile health and safety director with a wealth of experience in policy and program development, training, and facilitation of health and safety awareness.

A.J. van Beek – Estimator/Service Administrator

A.J. started with Atlas-Apex in early 2014, bringing with him over ten years of roofing industry experience. AJ commenced with his career in the business as an Inspector and Project Manager for one of the larger national roofing and building envelope consulting firms where he was involved in Quality Control, Condition Assessment, Capital Planning and Budgeting as well as software development.

A graduate of Brock University with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours), he also holds a Diploma in Marketing from Mohawk College.

In 2015 AJ accepted an opportunity at the companies West Coast division in order to manage and develop the service and maintenance department for the firm. His role has expanded to include construction estimating and project management during his tenure in BC.

A.J.’s additional career development and training includes Rooftop Quality Assurance through the Roof Consultant Institute (RCI), Green Roof Design and Installation through Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, as well as many supplier, industry and safety related courses and certifications.

Paul Hartfiel – Business Development/Estimating

Paul joined Atlas-Apex in March of 2014 as part of the business development team. His career in the roofing industry began in 2012 when he assisted in the launch of the Ontario division for one of Canada’s largest light gauge steel cladding and roofing manufacturers.

Paul graduated from University of Guelph with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing Management. Throughout his time at University, Paul began to refine his communication skills through the development and execution of various class presentations. It was this constant exposure to oral presentations that led Paul to further pursue his interests in public speaking and communication. After graduating, Paul enrolled in several public speaking and leadership courses. Upon completion of these, Paul became a registered instructor specifically related to leadership and public commentary with the primary focus on effective communication, advanced presentation skills, and student engagement and empowerment.

In 2015 Paul transferred to the West Coast division where his role within the company includes business development, estimating, and project management. He is actively involved in roofing related courses offered by accredited associations within the industry including RCABC, RCI and CRCA.

Darrin Lambert – Project Manager

Darrin initially started with Coast Hudson at the age of 18 when his father, a company foreman, hired him as a construction labourer. Prior to the completion of his apprenticeship, in only his third year with the firm, Darrin’s potential was obvious and management promoted him to the position of foreman and assigned him a full time crew. He continued to move forward with technical and apprenticeship training and in 1995 became a ticketed journeyman roofer.

In 2013, following a successful 20 years working in the roofing industry, including working on projects such as GM Place (now Rogers Arena), Vancouver City Hall, Harbour Centre and many other notable City towers Darrin moved on to pursue an opportunity in new construction. Once again his talents were immediately recognizable and he quickly advanced to a leadership positon. During his tenure Darrin oversaw the waterproofing discipline for a major four tower development in Vancouver requiring the daily supervision of twenty plus men as well as coordinating project requirements with general contractors, inspectors, building consultants and other site trades. During the construction of these 4 towers he gained valuable experience installing deck and parkade coatings.

In September 2015 Darrin accepted an opportunity to return to the company at which his career began when he was hired by Atlas-Apex for a position in project management. His day to day activities include organizing the labour force, purchasing, organizing sub trades, meeting with consultants/inspectors, project management, safety coordination, managing tools and equipment as well as customer relations.

Darrin’s qualification and training includes safety monitor, torch and propane safety, first aid as well as manufacturer and industry related courses on the installation of various waterproofing materials including SBS, EPDM, TPO, PVC, BUR and liquid products.
